Nottingham is situated roughly 150 miles north of London, in the East Midlands region. Founded in the seventh century AD, at a crossing point on the river Trent, Nottingham is today a city of some 300,000 people.

Prosperous during the Industrial revolution it became known for its fine lace. Indeed, today there is still a district called 'Lace Market', although it is no longer an industrial area. Famous also for the stories about the exploits of the semi-mythical Robin Hood.

Two major football teams, Nottingham Forest and Notts County FC, are based in the city; also a famous cricket ground where test matches are played, called Trent Bridge.

There are good road (M1) and rail links with London, and the Nottingham East Midlands Airport is nearby. The airport, however, mainly serves European rather than global destinations.

According to the BBC (in May 2008) the average house price in Nottingham was approximately £124,000. In neighbouring local authorities, however, it varied from around £119,000 to £221,000.
