Located in South Wales, and situated on the Severn Estuary, Cardiff began line nearly 2000 years ago as a Roman fort (on the present site of Cardiff castle).

It experienced tremendous growth during the Industrial revolution due to the fact that it became the main port for exports of coal from the South Wales valleys. More recently development has powered ahead again on the strength of the capital city status (1955) and of devolution (1999).

As would be expected of the capital city it is the main centre for financial and business services in Wales. It is also the major (road and rail) transport hub for the South Wales area, and Cardiff International Airport is located 12 miles west of Cardiff.

According to a BBC report dated May 2008 the average price of a house in Cardiff was around £176,000, after a decrease of 2.7% in the previous quarter.

The new Cardiff City Stadium with nearly 26,000 seats, will be home to both Cardiff City F.C. (football) and Cardiff Blues (rugby) from the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
