Executive search jobs occupy the upper end of the recruitment market.

One of the key differences with executive search relates to the way in which they bill companies.  Executive search jobs are normally reserved for senior and Director level positions of very high value, say £100K upwards.  These positions are normally filled by assignment.  The executive search company will bill a fee for taken the assignment on, a fee for presenting candidates who fit the spec, and then finally a fee for making the placement.

This can mean that make substantial money without actually filling the position, although clearly if they do this they are less likely to get future assignments.

An executive search consultant will spend comparably more time working on very much fewer high value vacancies than a recruitment consultant.
