Recruitment jobs and generating extra placements for free
If you are in recruitment jobs today you will obviously have a website to help your business in both promoting your services to generate clients, and also attract candidates to place.
If you haven't, you should have! What is perhaps surprising is the proportion of people who then do little or nothing to ensure that this promotional vehicle is seen by the right people. Sure enough, some will see it as an address on the bottom of your stationary, or your e-mail signature, but this alone won't get your website performing anywhere near it's potential.
If this is you, you are missing an enormous opportunity to gain extra business for free. My reference is to what is referred to as Search engine optimisation, or SEO. This is the activity of developing your website to appear at the top of search engine rankings through a variety of activities. Some recruitment agencies are becoming more wise to SEO techniques and the results it can bring, but on the whole, the world of recruitment jobs is still to capitalise on the opportunities out there.
Just to give you an insight, imagine having a retail shop in Northern Scotland. I would imagine your turnover would be much lower than the same retail outlet in Regent Street in London. Of course you costs will be comparably lower such as the leasing of your building, so it will even out in this respect. Meanwhile, the costs of operating from Regent street will be astronomical in comparison. On the internet, there are similar parallels between the income potential from top rankings and lower rankings, HOWEVER, there is much less of a cost difference required to generate a prime location on the internet.
Unless you have deep pockets, I'm not suggesting you contact one of the many SEO companies as they increasingly seem to be charging huge sums for really basic services. The difficulty on purchasing SEO services, is that it is exceptionally difficult to assess what you are likely to get for a certain spend, in advance. The reason for this, is that from an SEO perspective, it can be equally difficult to predict how much work will be required to produce a given result, for a certain key phrase in a certain sector.
Here's the good news, there's no reason why you can't become effective in SEO yourself. There are many aspects to the subject, but in all, it's not overly complicated. Join a couple of SEO forums and read them over regular tea breaks and you'll soon pick up enough techniques to become effective to a good level. Avoid the 'doom army' who seem to want to portray google as the enemy trying to bring down the world economy, there's a few of these. You should find everything you need to become highly proficient and get results.
If you stick at it for you recruitment jobs site, you may find you end up with a business like a retail outlet on Regent Street, for the costs of Northern Scotland, a winner all round!
