Recruitment consultant jobs and personal marketing

It's amazing how quickly ideas and perceptions can change in the age of the internet. Social networking sites are now are spreading like the plague with a number of debates raging as to their purposes and how they should and shouldn't be used.

In recent months we have seen the debate as to whether information on these sites should be used as evidence to convict people of offences, even if the information posted was only really intended for private circles. We have also seen the issue of visibility, that is, once you, and any information about you is out on the internet, your digital footprint is their to stay and there's nothing you can do to stop it. If the information is not flattering, for example, photos of your recent attendance on a stag night, it's no good regretting it when it falls into the hands of potential employer who found you on a google search in an uncompromising position.

The point to be made here is there is a very positive opportunity here. If you are a professional, or you are planning of embarking on a professional career as a recruitment consultant, the digital footprint you make is within your control from the outset. Many start up business use there 'Myspace' as an initial website, detailing there services for free. You should do the same for yourself. Treat the social networking sites as a personal website to market yourself. What information, and if appropriate what images will support your job seeking activities. If a recruitment consultant was to find your details via a google search, what would you want then to find? and what would you want them to see?

At this stage in the evolution of these sites, and recruitment consultant finding someone's details on social networking site is expecting to see pictures of your last holiday, your dog, family and if they're lucky some information about your working background. If they, in fact, found a professional looking resume of your professional background, skills, hobbies and interests along with a photograph only in business attire, you will indeed look like the professional candidate you need to to attract attention.

We all have our mad moments in life, after all, we are all human. However, if you want to pursue a professional career in something such as recruitment, stop and think what you post on the internet, it's anything but private. With this in mind, work out what you would like a prospective employer to see, and post this up, you may find then your next jobs comes to find you.1

Good luck
